Year 5 Space Adventure Programme
On Friday 12th July, 11 intrepid future astronauts and aeronautic engineers from Year 5 were invited by St Paul's Girls School to take part in their Space Adventure Programme.
Dairy Meadow was joined by 5 other schools, and the students were mixed up into teams of 4 to 6 students, with up to 3 schools appearing in each group. This led to our Dairy Meadowers working alongside other students from completely different backgrounds to solve problems involving blood type analysis, engineering a moon buggy, answering questions about space travel, and utilising wind power to travel a complicated landscape.
At the end of the day, we were very proud of our Dairy Meadow students, who displayed all their skills builder skills in a real world environment. We definitely have some future scientists in the making!
“What I really enjoyed about the trip was when we did the blood testing, because I’ve never done that and it was really interesting, especially when we found out different things about different types of blood. We learnt about the word agglutination, which basically means when blood cells stick together. It helped me to tell what the blood types were from how they reacted to the liquid that we used.” -Aleena
“I really enjoyed working in a team with different people from different schools. It built up my confidence for talking and interacting with other people.” – Safiyah
“I liked using creativity when making the space buggy, as it led me to having good ideas.” – Aliza
