Eastside - Celebrating Diversity Workshop
On Thursday 17th October, KS2 joined a live online workshop delivered by Eastside. The workshop was all about celebrating diversity and specifically celebrated the achievements of social activist Sybil Phoenix. The first black woman to be awarded an MBE, a foster parent to hundreds of children, founder of a homeless shelter for women and owner of the first black youth club are just some of her commendable achievements. Children explored these important moments in her life and worked in small groups to create a poem dedicated to Sybil’s legacy.
Ash class’s poem
If I were Sybil Phoenix, I'd set up a free food stall in Southall so no-one goes hungry.
If I were Sybil Phoenix, I'd open a shop with free books and toys for children.
If I were Sybil Phoenix, I'd say ‘I am strong, I will not give up!’
Home - provider, life - saver
Peace - giver and a mother to all
Thank you, Sybil Phoenix, for refusing to fall.
