Gamelan Project

What has been happening:

Our Y4 children have taken part in a wonderful series of workshops learning about Indonesian culture. Over a series of 5 days they learnt about the country and its culture and customs. They found out about traditional stories, music, and the art of Shadow Puppetry. Their learning came together in a wonderful concert to parents in which the children told traditional tales illustrated by shadow puppets they had carefully made themselves, accompanying their performance by playing Indonesian Gamelan (percussion instruments). For further information about this wonderful music style please click here

What has been the impact:

As the project was in part funded by the Indonesian Embassy we invited Ambassador Dr Desra Percaya from the Embassy to attend. We were honoured that he accepted the invitation and although, due to traffic delays, unfortunately he missed the actual performance His Excellency was so impressed by the children’s learning and enthusiasm he invited then to perform at the Indonesian Embassy in Westminster. We have gratefully accepted this generous offer and are very much looking forward to finding out more about this unique culture!
